I’ve recently rediscovered a new way to exercise. I loved dance when I was a little girl: ballet, tap, jazz, and even clogging! I always loved it, but knew I would never grow up to be a dancer. I eventually stopped when I started junior high. So when I got an email for an adult tap dancing class from my daughter’s ballet studio, I got excited. Should I do it?
When I mentioned it to my husband he just laughed and thought I was joking. I wasn’t joking and signed up. I went online and ordered some tap shoes. These are the exact ones I bought. They aren’t very expensive. There was no turning back now, I had spent the money. I was really nervous and had no idea what to expect. I’ve been going for 6 months now and love it. I recommend it to all my friends.

Why I love dancing and why you should give it a try.
- It’s fun!
- It’s a challenge.
- Rewarding- When you finally get that step right.
- Stress relief
- You can really clear your mind because you can’t think about anything when your focus is on the correct steps and counting.
- Learn something new.
- It’s a workout.
- Good for your mind. My teacher reminds us every class that it reduces dementia as you get older.
- You can laugh at yourself.
If you have an opportunity to take a class, I would recommend it. Look for one in your area. And no, I don’t have to wear a leotard and I won’t be performing at the spring recital!
Update: I have been taking for almost 2 years now and still loving it. I feel like I’ve come a long way and am learning more complicated steps. I still recommend it!

This is a great idea! I'm sure it is fun, but also quite physically demanding. I applaud you for doing it for 6 months. :-)

I recently discovered how much fun dancing is as exercise too! Our local Parks Department has several dance classes including Barre and just a free-form Fosse kind of dance class. It doesn't even feel like exercising!

I've always wanted to try dance! It sounds so fun and works your whole body.
