It’s cookie day in my house! I felt I would be able to do so many recipes this summer when the kids were out of school, but my plan failed. I’ve been so out of whack since my kids have been out of school since the middle of March.
I feel like we’ve just been in a holding pattern for so long and I don’t see it changing anytime soon. Ugh. Hopefully, I’ll have more time when they go back to school in August if they go back. {Update-My high schooler went back full time. My two youngest are virtual.}
Did you know you can use cake mix to make other things besides cake? There are so many other orange cake mix recipes out there and this one is easy and a nice change from regular chocolate chip cookies.

Eggless Orange Cookie Recipe
These are fantastic orange flavored cookies, especially if you like oranges! My son loves anything orange, so these are for him. This is a good orange recipe too.
These are simple to make and people will be surprised when you say they don’t have eggs in them. They are delicious and the perfect treat. Some people call the orange crinkle cookies.
I’m allergic to eggs and have to make most of my own desserts and treats so I like to have a few recipes that are shortcuts so I don’t have to totally start from scratch.
I have an EGGLESS Recipe board on Pinterest and there are a ton of great recipes. You can follow it here. I pin on it every week because I’m ALWAYS on the lookout for new recipes.
I also have an EGG FREE RECIPE Facebook page that I just started, so there is only one follower right now, me! (Update: It’s over 2400 now!!) Go follow over there and I’ll post any good recipes I find!
This recipe uses cake mix, which is a great short cut when you’re busy. No need to get out the flour and vanilla extract and a perfect recipe for the kids to help out. There’s no icing to make and get all over your clothes and kitchen either.
Kitchen tools to make orange crinkle cookies
Box Grater– An easy way to zest an orange is with your box grater on the smallest size. This grater has a fine shred/zest side so you can get the peel nice and small.
Electric Hand Mixer– This is the same hand mixer I received as a wedding gift over twenty years ago! I use it a lot and it’s still going strong. I highly recommend it. I have a stand mixer but use this much more.
Cooling rack– I love these cooling racks because they don’t take up a lot of room in your cabinets to store.
Cookie Sheets– This is another wedding gift I received. I love these big sheets and can usually get 16 cookies on at a time.

Ingredients for Orange Cookie Recipe
Orange Cake Mix– I used Perfectly Moist Duncan Hines Orange Supreme cake mix. I got it at my normal supermarket. It’s the base of this orange cookie recipe.
Oil– I use vegetable oil in my baking.
Orange Juice– You can do fresh orange juice from an orange or the orange juice you have in your refrigerator.
Applesauce– Sweetened applesauce is fine to use in this recipe. You can use whatever you have in your refrigerator- sweetened or unsweetened.
Orange Zest– This is what will give it that great fresh orange taste. Make sure to not grate the white part of the orange, only the orange peel. The white part is bitter.
Powdered Sugar– This puts the final touches on your cookies!

How to make the best orange cookies from cake mix
Step 1
Preheat the oven and add all the ingredients {except powdered sugar} to a large bowl and mix well using an electric mixer.
Step 2
Using a spoon, scoop about a tablespoon of the cookie dough and add to a bowl of powdered sugar. Roll around until the dough is fully coated.
Step 3
Bake for about 14 minutes or until done. The bottoms will be slightly brown. Let cool a few minutes before moving to a cooling rack.
Tip 1
Use parchment paper to line your baking sheet. It makes for easy cleanup and the cookies don’t stick.
Tip 2
Don’t leave out rolling the dough in the powdered sugar. See the photo below. I did an example of why you shouldn’t. The cookies still taste good, but it looks so much better rolled in the powdered sugar.

I used lemon cake mix and juice instead and they turned out great! I didn't have a fresh lemon (only bottled juice) so I left the zest out but that would have added a nice brightness. I think vegan white chocolate chips will be a nice addition for next time. I'm looking forward to trying this with other flavors! :)

The ingredients does not list orange juice just zest of an orange But directions says add orange juice. Doesn't say how much juice. I am confused.

OMG! You're right. I went back and looked at my handwritten copy to verify! It's a small amount, just 1 tablespoon. I also updated the ingredient list in the recipe block! Thanks for letting me know.
