Having a smooth morning routine for mom before the kids get up can be a great start to your day. Make sure to take some time yourself.
My mornings are so hectic! It’s a whirlwind to get the kids dressed, breakfast, lunches made and out the door. Once they leave I usually sit down and look at the mess and gather my thoughts. I usually look at my list of things to do and decide what task to tackle first. Here are a few things to make my mornings count and knock the tasks off my list and make my morning more peaceful.
Mom Morning Routine
First things first, wake up before the kids. I know, it’s hard at first. The house in the morning is so peaceful. You know that will change as soon as the kids wake up. Having that quiet time in the morning to yourself, collecting your thoughts and getting a few things accomplished can set you up to have a good day. This is a priority in my morning routine.
Whether you are a stay at home mom, work at home mom, or working mom, this list is to get your morning started off in a positive way.
Make the bed
Don’t you feel a sense of accomplishment when the bed is made? It makes your room look nice and clean and it feels so nice to crawl into a nice bed when you’re exhausted.
Unloaded and reload the dishwasher
I run my dishwasher at night so I unload it in the morning. Then I start loading it back up. Usually, there is something in the sink from the night before so I grab it too. If I don’t do it now then they start to pile up and then dinner comes and instead of starting it, I’m cleaning.
Drink a glass of water
I always try to drink a lot of water during the day. I try to start off by drinking a glass to start my day out right.
Throw in a load of laundry
I do this about half the mornings. My family is always needing football or baseball items washed or their favorite pair of socks. It really helps to get that started first thing so it’s done.
Decide what I’m making for dinner
I make sure I have everything I need so I can get dinner done quickly and on time. The last thing I want to do is drive to the store at 7 at night to get a missing ingredient. I usually look at the calendar and see what time all the practices are to determine what the dinner plan is. I normally have a list of meals for the week written out. I just don’t assign the meal to the day of because things can change so quickly.
Grab a quick breakfast
I love oatmeal and eat it every, single morning. However, I eat the kind that takes 30 minutes to make. If I get sidetracked and get busy doing something else, I’ve missed my window and then I’m starving and don’t want to wait over 30 minutes to eat. Grabbing a healthy breakfast keeps you fueled for the day.
Depending on your daily routine, you may want to shower before or after the rest of the family is up. I work from home so I shower at lunch when there’s plenty of hot water. 🙂
Of course, you don’t have to do everything on the list. Some of you may want to write in a journal, read a devotion or go for a walk around the block. Set a daily routine that works for you. Give yourself that time first thing so you can have a productive day.
