These homemade corn dogs are the BOMB! The best part is that this recipe is egg free! My kids gave them two thumbs up and begged for more.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour plus a little extra for dusting the hot dogs
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • wooden skewers
  • 1 package hot dogs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Combine flour, cornmeal, salt, sugar, baking powder and baking soda and stir until combined.
  • Add buttermilk and maple syrup and stir.
  • Heat up at least 4 inches of oil to medium/high.
  • Cut hot dogs in half and insert wooden skewer. ┬áSprinkle a small amount of flour onto hot dogs.
  • Dip each hot dog into batter.
  • Cook in oil for 2-3 minutes, spinning to make sure all sides are cooked.
  • Let cool before eating.
