I was just complaining to my husband that my arthritis in my thumbs has been killing me.  He’s always making fun of me.  He says that I’m just 40 and I don’t have arthritis.  I don’t feel old, but over the last few years I’ve noticed my joints aching a little more.  About six months ago, I started doing some research on foods that cause and fight inflammation.  Maybe I could help my pain with just a few minor changes in my diet.  Since May is National Arthritis Month I thought I would share these with you!

When I eat unhealthy foods I notice that I’m sluggish, don’t sleep as well,  my mind is not as sharp, and I get random aches and pains.  I made some changes in my food choices and noticed that it helps the pain in my hands.  In my option, eating certain foods definitely reduces the inflammation in my body.

Foods that fight inflammation

  • Berries (strawberries and blueberries)
  • Rasins
  • Kale
  • Nuts
  • Green Tea- One of my favorites.Foods that Cause and Fight Inflammation
  • Edamame
  • Tomatoes
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Spices- basil, cinnamon, oregeno
  • Fatty Fish- salmon, mackerel, sardines, tuna

When we put healthy foods into our bodies, we heal quicker.  It’s also preventative to stop inflammation or reduce it’s effects.

Foods that cause inflammation

  • SUGAR-  This is what gets me!
  • Fried foods
  • Dairy
  • Bread
  • Crackers
  • White Potatoes
  • White Rice
  • Items that contain aspartame- ex. diet soda

Basically, the answer is pretty simple.  We need to be eating a less processed diet.  Instead of having a diet soda, make some green tea.   Don’t have crackers for snack, grab some nuts or raisins.  It takes longer for our body to heal when we put bad things in it.   Many of the foods listed also cause obesity, diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.  However, even with these changes sometimes you still have pain.   Advil EZ Open is a wonderful option for pain relief.  It’s great that it’s EZ open too!!  That’s when I have the most pain, when I’m opening jars and bottles.  Nothing has been proven stronger to help arthritis and other joint pain.*   Doctors recommend it more than any other OTC pain reliever.**  You can pick it up at Walmart on your next shopping trip.
