This recipe is easy to make with only a few ingredients and you probably have those in your pantry already. My kids can even make this without any help. They just need a little encouragement to clean up their mess after.
Chocolate Orange Slices
I’ve been cooking a lot of different foods since we’ve been stuck in lock down, even a mini Thanksgiving dinner for us. When my son saw me making these, he was estatic and told me I should make them more often.
Update: I wrote this over a year ago and just now getting around to publishing it!!
These oranges look so pretty and perfect to snack on. They’re the perfect Christmas dish to add to your dessert table too.
You may have come here looking for candied oranges, but those are dried oranges that are covered in sugar. Here’s a good candied orange slices recipe if you’re looking for that kind of recipe from another North Carolina blogger.

Tools to make Chocolate Dipped Orange Slices
Sea Salt Grinder – Here’s the exact sea salt grinder I use. It has a place that you can adjust the salt to fine, medium or course. I used course for this recipe.
Baking Sheet– I’ve had these baking sheets forever and love that they are bigger. I can usually get 16 cookies on a sheet when I’m baking.
Microwave safe glass bowl– These are the exact bowls that I have and I love them. They are perfect for all kitchen needs, from baking to salads.
Ingredients for Chocolate Covered Orange Slices
Mandarin oranges– Mandarin oranges have the perfect bite-sized slices. You can use whatever type of orange you have on hand- navel, blood orange or mandarin sliced oranges. However, you may need to melt more chocolate to make sure you have enough for the bigger orange slices.
I prefer Mandarin oranges because they’re small and you can eat a slice in one bite. You get the perfect amount of chocolate for each bite.
Milk chocolate chips– I normally buy milk chocolate chips because I personally like them better. I suggest using them in this recipe.
Coconut oil– I’ve been using coconut more and more in my cooking and adding it to this recipe makes your chocolate chips melt with a smoother texture.

How to make Chocolate Orange Slices
Step 1
Peel oranges and pull slices apart.
Step 2
Melt chocolate by adding chocolate chips to a microwave safe bowl with coconut oil. Microwave for 15 seconds at a time and stir. Repeat until chocolate is smooth.
If you over cook your chocolate chips, they become lumpy and hard to stir. You’ll need to throw that out and start again. It’s very important to go slow and do 15 seconds at a time.
Step 3
Dip half of each orange slice into the melted chocolate and lay on baking sheet lined with wax or parchment paper. Sprinkle with sea salt. No need for a wire rack for this recipe. You’ll want to keep the dipped oranges on the cookie sheet.
Step 4
Place in refrigerator until chocolate is hard again. Serve chilled.

Tip #1
You can leave the sea salt out if you prefer. It taste good with or without.
