We love breakfast foods at my house.  It’s the one meal that everyone will eat a ton and try all different kinds of foods. However, I’m allergic to eggs and it’s not MY favorite. It’s hard to find good no egg breakfast recipes.

I don’t like going out for breakfast either because there’s never much for me to eat while everyone else is chowing down on a pile of pancakes, muffins and eggs. It’s depressing! I usually end up getting a bowl of oatmeal that costs $7 and it’s so boring.

Pizza is everyone’s favorite so I thought I would try something new with this recipe.  My daughter and I were out grocery shopping and she saw a breakfast pizza in the freezer section.  I looked at the price and said, “No way!”  It was ridiculous.  I knew I could make a breakfast pizza recipe from scratch.

The pizza crusts I purchased for this recipe are from Aldi. It’s a 3 pack of personal sized pizza, for a total of 6 servings. However, you can buy any pizza crust you prefer.

Here’s what the Aldi crusts look like and they are located near the pizza sauce and pasta in my store.

Homemade Pizza with Sausage Gravy Breakfast Recipe

I’m from the south and we love biscuits and gravy. Instead of pizza sauce, I added sausage gravy.

If you have made my gravy before from my biscuit and gravy post, this one is slightly different. This one’s a little thicker. I wanted to make sure, when the pizza was cut, the gravy didn’t run off the crust and into your plate. You’ll be able to pick this up and eat it like a piece of pizza.

I don’t think this is a weekday kind of breakfast, but a good recipe to try on the weekend because you have to make the gravy, then bake the pizza until the cheese is melted. It doesn’t take that long to cook but it’s probably a little long for a school morning.

A shortcut for a weekday morning would be to make the gravy the night before and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Then in the morning, assemble the pizza and bake. It should only take about 10 minutes if done that way.

This pizza is very filling and full of protein. It’s definiely NOT low fat which is perfect for a school morning or a weekend full of sports and activities to keep your family going through the day. Just cut up some fruit and it’s the perfect breakfast.

Something I can’t live without and use all the time is my pizza cutter. I was going to show you the one I own, but when I went to Amazon to get the link I found this one. It is Amazon’s pick and has a ton of good reviews. It’s also smaller so it doesn’t take up as much room in your silverware drawer.

I’ve also used the same Calphlon baking pan I received as a wedding gift over 20 years ago and I highly recommend it. I’ve never had any issues with them. It’s 14-inch by 17-inch so it’s big and I like having the extra space when I’m baking.

Ingredients for easy breakfast pizza with gravy recipe

  • Pork sausage– You can use your favorite brand, but I normally use Jimmy Dean sausage, mild flavor.
  • All purpose flour
  • Milk
  • Black pepper– The amount of black pepper you add to this recipe depends on how much you like it. I don’t like pepper that much, except in two recipes and that’s sausage gravy and cheese grits!
  • Cheese–  Any shredded cheese will work. I buy mild or sharp cheddar cheese so that’s what I put on my breakfast- As I said above, I used the Aldi brand, but any brand is fine.
  • Olive oil

How to make Breakfast Pizza with Sausage Gravy

Step 1

Turn the oven on to preheat to 425F and brown your sausage over medium heat in a medium sized pot (not a skillet). You’re going to make your gravy in this so you want to make sure you have plenty of room. A 2-quart pot is plenty big enough.

Step 2

Once the sausage is cooked, stir in the flour well and cook for a couple of minutes.

Step 3

Slowly pour in milk while continuously stirring. It will slowly thicken up. Add black pepper.

Step 4

Brush pizza crust with olive oil or use cooking spray and place on baking sheet. You can use a pizza pan if you have one. Add 1/3- 1/2 cup of gravy to each crust and spread it out evenly over the bottom of the pizza crust is covered with the gravy. Sprinkle with 1/4 cup shredded cheese.

Step 5

Bake the pizza for 8 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
